Granite is a major component of the
continental crust. It is a kind of magmatic rock formed by magma condensation
below the surface and belongs to deep intrusive rock. It is found mainly in
mineral forms such as quartz or feldspar. Granite comes from the Latin word
granum, which means grain or grain.
Granite gets its name because it often
forms well-developed mineral grains that can be seen by the naked eye. Granite
is not easy to weathering, its beautiful color and appearance of color can be
maintained for more than a hundred years. Because of its high hardness, wear
resistance, it is used for advanced architectural decoration projects, hall
ground, or the first choice of outdoor carving material.
Some people may have misconceptions about the texture of granite, thinking it is resistant to being scratched by sharp objects. Granite is a porous igneous rock consisting mainly of quartz and feldspar with a hard diamond-like surface. Therefore, granite has strong scratch resistance. However, granite countertops can still get scratched over time.
So how do you avoid scratches on granite?
1. Sealed granite countertop. Granite countertops are porous materials that can be easily scratched if not properly cared for. Curing agent can form a protective layer on the countertop to protect the granite countertop. This protective layer also makes the granite surface very smooth and shiny.
Granite countertops are resealed by the manufacturer before they are sold. But over time, this protective layer will wear away, so reseal the table regularly. You can also purchase some curing agent products from the manufacturer to maintain granite countertops.
2. Avoid using sharp objects on the granite
countertop. Granite countertops are often used to prepare food. Cutting
directly into the counter will damage it and even leave ugly scratches. Placing
a cutting board when cutting food helps protect the granite countertop.
3. Avoid dragging kitchen equipment from
granite countertops. Kitchen equipment such as mixers, food processors, stoves
and mixers are heavy duty equipment. They may have sharp edges that can scratch
granite countertops. To avoid this, do not drag heavy objects on granite
countertops. If kitchen equipment is too heavy, have someone help lift it or
put foam cushion on the bottom. Foam pads are great for moving things around,
while also avoiding scratches on the counter.
4. Clean granite countertops after each
use. Hard objects left over from food preparation can scratch granite
countertops.
