What is limestone? What are the features of limestone?

What is limestone? What are the features of limestone?

Dec 29, 2021

Limestone is a natural stone, formed hundreds of millions of years ago by the impact and fusion of debris, shells, corals and other marine life under the sea, and through the long-term collision and compression of the crust.

The Limestone also enjoys another noble name, the Stone of Life.

Material classes

1)According to the colour, limestone can be roughly divided into: white limestone, gray limestone, brown limestone, beige limestone, yellow limestone.

2)According to the surface texture, limestone can be divided into: limestone honed surface, limestone bush-hammered surface, limestone wire drawing surface.

Material properties

1)Natural environmental protection, no radiation

Any piece of natural stone is a radiation-free, green and environmentally friendly building material. Limestone is a material formed after hundreds of millions of years of precipitation and crystallization, with superior performance.

2)Hygroscopicity and heat absorption

The weak water absorption performance of limestone can effectively regulate indoor humidity, and its natural high heat storage performance can absorb severe external heat and then slowly release, contributing to a warm winter and cool summer environment.

3)Beautiful texture and color

Limestone texture uniform and has mild color, special texture. It also has the hardness of granite and is often used for building facades. It is an irreplaceable classic.

4)Inelastic, easy to crack

Limestone is hard, but not elastic. If the panels crack, it means the whole stone has to be replaced. Because of its natural nature, it is easy to crack, and any external impact is likely to increase the speed of its cracking.

5)Limited size

Because limestone is taken from nature, its specifications are generally limited. The current construction process can not get two pieces of perfect splicing, so its application process is often subject to size restrictions.

6)Easy to fade and dirty

Limestone is made of calcium carbonate and has fine pores on the surface. If water stains are found on the surface, the stains can be easily absorbed into the stone. And as a result of craft limitation, the joint of two stone cannot be joined together perfectly, easy to hide filth and dirt, too.
